Steve Emtman

Steve Emtman (born April 16, 1970) is a former defensive end/defensive tackle for the National Football League's Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears. He was born in Spokane, Washington.

Emtman was the best defensive lineman in college football in 1991, and the junior skipped his final season at the University of Washington to turn pro. The Colts bit, selecting Emtman with the No. 1 pick in the draft and following that up with Texas A&M linebacker Quentin Coryatt at No. 2 overall.

Emtman was a star and considered the best overall player on a Washington Huskies team that split the national championship with Miami in 1991, winning the Outland & Lombardi Award as well as being named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year.

Indy, however, got little return on its ownership of the first two picks.

Emtman played nine games his rookie season before blowing out his knee. He returned the following season, only to injure his other knee. He had a slew of operations and played only 10 games over the next six years before retiring with eight career sacks.

He was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006. Along with Bruce Smith, Tim Brown, Emmitt Smith and John Madden, Steve Emtman had a cameo appearance as himself in the 1994 feature film Little Giants.

Emtman is now involved in business ventures in eastern Washington and Los Angeles.
